Overview
Students pursuing a doctoral degree in another area who wish to complete a finance minor are required to take at least five graduate level finance courses (defined below), receive a least a 3.0 grade point average in these classes (Texas Tech GPA), and pass a qualifying exam in finance. The qualifying exam will be written by the finance faculty and will be administered after the completion of the coursework.
Finance Minor Coursework
A. FIN 6331 (Ph.D. seminar in Foundations of Finance). FIN 6331 is a prerequisite for the other Ph.D. seminars in finance and is offered once a year during Summer-2 semester.
B. At least two other Ph.D. level seminar courses in finance (FIN 6332, FIN 6333, FIN 6335, or FIN 6336), selected in consultation with the Director of the Finance Ph.D. program.
C. At least two other graduate level (i.e., 5000+ level) finance courses, not including FIN 5319 or FIN 5320 (or equivalents), selected in consultation with the Director of the Finance Ph.D. program.
D. Students completing graduate level finance courses at another university can (with approval of the Director of the Finance Ph.D. program) transfer in one of the two required graduate level courses. The remaining 5000+ level finance course and the three Ph.D. level courses must be taken at Texas Tech.
